Los Angeles, the iconic ‘City of Angels’ is located along the Pacific Ocean in southern California and is the second most populous city in the USA, behind New York. With a Mediterranean climate and much ethnic and cultural diversity, this sprawling city has an overwhelming number of things to do and places to go.

Perhaps a good starting point for a visit to Los Angeles is to join one of the many guided tours to get a flavour of what’s on offer. There are tours of varying durations to suit every budget, with modes of transport including coach, open-top bus and electric bicycle, often with the convenience of a hotel pick up. You can even take a private car tour in a Ferrari. It is LA, after all. Sight-seeing classics include the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Rodeo Drive and Sunset Boulevard, Beverley Hills, Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach, to name but a select few.

At the heart of the USA’s film and television industry, LA-based studios such as Paramount Pictures, Universal and Warner Brothers offer behind-the-scenes tours to the public. Indeed, the theme park at Universal Studios Hollywood provides a thrilling day out. This is the original Universal Studios Theme Park, which grew from those earlier tours of the famous studio’s film sets, with attractions based on the studio’s film productions. Pre-book an Express Ticket to get one-time express access to each ride, attraction and show. It’s well worth the additional cost to skip the queues. The surrounding area also houses top hotels and the Universal CityWalk: shops, restaurants, an 18-screen cinema and a seven-storey IMAX theatre.

Traditional art galleries include the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, a visual arts museum as well as organiser of film and music events, and the Getty Center, set on a hill with beautiful architecture, gardens and views, accessed by tram from the visitor’s parking area. Meanwhile, immersive digital art experiences are an interesting, interactive option, offered by Fever. These time-limited exhibits have, or will, feature the works of Claude Monet, Gustav Klimt, Rene Magritte and Vincent van Gogh.

Finally, for fine dining with that special someone, why not try award-winning Il Cielo, located in the heart of Beverly Hills, known as the most romantic restaurant and private events venue, with its intimate, twinkling Tuscan-style dining area and courtyard, serving modern Italian cuisine with a Japanese twist.
